The leaves are dropping covering the countryside in a warm orange glow, and our favourite jumpers are being fished out from the back of our wardrobes. It’s autumn, and we’re pleased because that means soon we’ll be lighting our fire and snuggling up in front of it. Once again our fireplace will be the focal point of our home, so if you’re looking at yours thinking it could do with an update, here’s some inspiration based on some natural stone designs we’ve been loving.
Black
use black natural stones like marble and slate for a fireplace with a bold, sultry edge. Designs could include a simple, matte and modern slate, or a classic, ornate, polished marble. The ability to withstand intense heat, and easily cleaned surfaces mean these stones have been used as fireplace surrounds for centuries. Black fireplaces pair perfectly with warm toned walls and metallic home accessories, including decorative brass fire screens.
Natural stones with vibrant tiles
the Victorians used decorated tiles in their cast iron fire surrounds, and now the tradition of tiles is back, except this time instead of cast iron, we’re pairing tiles with neutral natural stones like beautiful marbles and fossil filled limestones. Using tiles adds a pop of pattern to your fireplace, and paired with classic natural stone allows you to create your perfect vibe, whilst remaining durable and low maintenance.
Floor to ceiling
Forget fire surround and think fire wall. What could be more of a focal point than a fire surround that fills the wall from floor to ceiling. Really show-off the beauty of natural stones like marble and slate by wrapping your chimney breast or cladding your wall.
